WE ARE GETTING MARRIED!

A big hello to anyone who is reading Lenardily’s blog right now (: this blog has been set up simply because we, Lenard and Lily are getting married on 14th September 2013!!!

As we prepare for the biggest day of our lives, this blog will help us to record and share the love, joy & excitement we will experience during this wonderful process. Of course, some headaches are expected as well but we believe that with God in our lives and at the center of our relationship, no headache will be too big for Him (: and hey, maybe reading about our headaches will help you out there who are planning your wedding to avoid them! So we will just have fun recording and ranting about the details of our preparation as we we tick-tock towards our big day.

So what has happened so far?

A couple of things really. Since Lenard’s proposal on 31st October 2012 (We will get to the proposal in the next post because that deserves a post on its own!), we have been

1. trying to decide on a date
2. exploring the different options for our solemnization
3. looking for venues for our wedding banquet
4. keeping our eyes open for a home

and we are happy to say that we have decided on a date, 14th September 2013 (:

However, the rest are really pretty much still in progress although we have made some developments in each area. What followed after we have decided on our date was a series of emailing and phone calls to different hotels, churches, tentage and event companies! Most of these hotels, churches and companies have been very warm and prompt in their replies and it is something we are truly thankful for. And with the wedding being less than a year away, every response that we can get to answer our queries is helpful and helps to give us a clearer sense of where we are heading for our wedding within this time span that we have.

To be honest, one thing I have learnt is how our plans will be constantly changing during the wedding preparation. Inititally, both Lenard and I have very much wanted to have our solemnization at his place as we feel that that place holds great meaning for us. However, there are some reservations from our parents about the logistics and costs of having the ceremony at home. Not that they are not being supportive, but they are really being concerned and I’m pretty sure most parents will be that way (: but us in our own eagerness, were determined to convince our parents of our decision. Hence, we immediately began our research on tentage costs, decoration and furniture rental charges and also the cost of holding the solemnization at churches. And in the process, I am so glad that I have Lenard to lead us in this because I don’t think I would have been as diligent on my own hoho. Anyways, all the research is really just our way of wanting to make sure that we have covered all grounds before really presenting our ideas to our parents.

So! Here comes the part which explains why this became an ïnitially”. Just when we were all prepared to present our ideas to our parents, we realised that due to some practicality constraint, we might not be able to hold our solemnization at home after all. And the most amazing thing is, the constraint really was not anyone’s fault but it seemed more like God telling us, “Hello you two. You seem to be getting a bit too fixated on wanting to take control of the wedding. What really is the true meaning behind the wedding? Is it just wanting to create your own perfect wedding?” And at that very moment, it just became clear to us that it is really not about the venue or the style. Yes, we would still want our wedding to be beautiful and memorable but more importantly, we want those around us, concerned parents and siblings, to be busking in our joy during the process and on that day too. And so, with peace in our hearts, we dismissed the idea of celebrating at home and decided on the idea of having either the solemnization at a church or at the hotel itself.

Currently, one thing we have confirmed after numerous emails to hotels is that we will be having our celebration at one of the hotels/ resorts at Sentosa! (: We are looking at the very beautiful Capella and the new and trendy W Hotel at Sentosa! But more details will need to be confirmed and we will talk about our hotel hunt in the next post along with our site visiting experiences!

As for the home-hunting, we are very blessed to have one of Lenard’s aunties, Aunty Tracy to help us with it. It is something that we are praying for and we will continue to visit houses in the meantime.
Oh! And we have started attending our Marriage Preparation Course with Hansel and Jean! (: Such a lovely couple and we cannot wait to attend more sessions with them!

All in all, just want to end this very first post by saying how thankful and blessed both Lenard and I are to have our parents, siblings, aunties and uncles, cousins and friends being so enthusiastic and supportive about our upcoming wedding! Loves! We will be posting again soon and…

Hooray, we’re getting married! (:

Counting down the days,
