Cravings for Sweets - Department of Caffeine and Windowsill Pies

Today marks the beginning of Week 38!

In the past two weeks, things have been really busy, not just with preparation for Baby Paul's room but mainly with an Art project that my school is involved in. After a few nights of burning the midnight oil and writing of lesson plans, I am super glad that one big part of it is over and I can finally rest up a little (: Thank God for how He has sustained me, that I did not fall ill from the late nights except for a little fatigue and Baby Paul is still active and cheering for me.

I think one question a lot of people asked me after I got pregnant is whether I have any cravings. Honestly speaking, I did not experience those middle-of-the-night-I-want-to-eat-hokkien-mee-from-chomp-chomp-NOW kind of cravings that people often described (Yes, Lenard has been a happy sleeper at night). Neither did I swing to the other extreme and start turning my back against food which I loved before Baby Paul. Perhaps only during the first trimester did I find raw beef or other red meat unappetizing. However, as I progressed towards the end of first trimester, I started enjoying my medium-rare steaks again (Dr. Tham gave the green light to eat medium rare beef!).

In fact, I think my cravings before and after Baby Paul are pretty similar. Still having random food moments for my mum's food and pasta like before and that also means my sweet tooth lights up at times too. That seemed to be more so in the past few weeks though and so I was very delighted to be able to visit Windowsill Pies 2 Saturdays ago and Department of Caffeine (D.O.C) yesterday!

First up, Windowsill Pies near Jalan Bahar Stadium. That area is really developing to be a hip, hang-out area with Chye Seng Huat Hardware and Tiramisu Hero all in the vicinity. I haven't had the chance to try the other two yet but Windowsill pies does have pretty yummy pies (: With my parents, my cousin, bro (Joey) and sis-in-law (Shan), we tried 3 slices of pie in total.

Entering the woods... Love the pine trees silhouettes in the night.

Clockwise from Top Left: Funny Apple, White Choc Truffle, Grasshopper and Hot Chocolate.

Guess who I found, YELLO!
One of the last photographs I took with Yello, our previous fridge before Mr. Mint, our new fridge arrives. It was a spot of sunshine in our house.

My fave is probably the Grasshopper which is a mint and chocolate pie. For those who do not like something too sweet, the Funny Apple, a rum and apple combination will probably be a good choice. Lastly, the white chocolate truffle pie was unique and a surprisingly beautiful match. Joey and Shan even packed a slice home! (:

The yummy pies and really cozy, kinda scandinavian woodlands decor makes Windowsill Pies a great place to chow down some sweet pies.

Next, we have D.O.C. Yesterday, Len and I went for another sweet treat with my brother and sis-in-law again. Without a doubt, the Duxton area will not disappoint if you would just like to find a random cafe or restaurant to explore because there are just so many quaint and yummy places there! After hearing about Alvin(Len's brother) talk about the waffles at D.O.C on Friday night, it has been on my mind and on Sunday, Joey and Shan suggested that as a hang-out possibility and of course, I voted for it! So glad that we went there because the waffles are really heavenly (:

Valrhona Chocolate Waffle with Rum-Bananas, Vanilla Ice-cream and Maple Syrup.
So. Good.

Chicken Tenders which are really crispy and juicy. If you like savoury waffles, go for the classic comfort food, waffle served with fried chicken.

15 Duxton Road: Department of Caffeine.

Other than the valrhona chocolate waffles and chicken tenders, we got ourselves some yogurt smoothies and a flat white as well. The two yogurt smoothies we tried, vanilla + yogurt + honey & Mango + mint + yogurt. are surprisingly refreshing and you can actually taste every ingredient they listed. Can't wait to go there again and try more of their waffles and other dishes! Probably the next time, we will be bringing Baby Paul along!

We are waiting for you, Baby Paul!

Two weeks away from Baby Paul's due date! (: Hang in there, Baby Paul! I am officially on leave from today onwards till Baby Paul arrives and I am thankful for the rest that God has provided. Shall update again tomorrow about one of my last medical check-ups with my very fatherly Gynecologist, Dr. Tham and another exciting event that happened last Wednesday. 14 days to go!
