Surprise Baby Showers Weekend!

Had an awesome weekend (: not just because the June holidays have finally arrived but mainly because of the shower of love from so many loved ones! I have some friends asking me what a baby shower is as they are more familiar with the Chinese celebration of the baby's first month old birthday. Well, according to wikipedia, "a baby shower is a way to celebrate the pending or recent birth of a child by presenting gifts to the mother at a party". Whether it is supposed to be a surprise or not, I am not sure but a surprise is always nice!

Saturday - Surprise Baby Shower #1
On Saturday, I needed to go to school for our community involvement project and Lenard was very sweet to pick me up after that (: A week before, Hansel and Jean (our cellies) had already arranged to visit us that day and help us check on the progress of our nursery in the afternoon. Since there was some time before they came, we had gone to JEM to pick up some 3M velcro strips to hang up more stuff for Baby Paul's room. I was pretty famished by 12.45 pm and after much discussion, Lenard chose Miam Miam for lunch. Feeling psyched and with a growling tummy, we walked in and just when I was about to sit down, my boy said, "I don't feel like Miam Miam. Hmm why don't we go somewhere else?" I gave him THE look and told him he was asking for a knuckle-sandwich i.e. a punch but alright, I could still wait a while. Then, came Jean's message that they were reaching soon and we could go for lunch together. So, we headed back to our place to meet them. I WAS GETTING HUNGRIER.

Soon, we reached the doorstep of our home. I was replying a text and did not really pay attention to the doorstep (there was a foreign pair of sandals there!!!!) plus these days, I really am not very sharp with my pregnancy brain (there really is such a thing.). However, I felt a gush of cold air when I stepped in and asked Len immediately whether he had forgotten to switch off the air-conditioner. At the same time, I noticed some letters pasted on the wall. Before I could make out what they were, our cell group came out from our room and shouted "Surprise!"

All the yummy food waiting to be devoured. #timbrepizzas #nenechicken #plainvanilla cupcakes #delifrancetarts.

Pretty & delicious.

Baby Shower gifts from cellies!

3/4 of our wonderful cell group (: including our youngest member, Rebekah. Can you spot her?

Testing out the baby-wrap with our grumpy pet cat. Still practising.

Awesome job, guys. I totally did not expect it and I just felt really warm and fuzzy (: and there were some tears in my eyes of course. So, as it turned out, Lenard needed to keep me away from our home till the cellies had arrived and were ready with the set-up. Lenard had passed a set of keys to Jean the previous day so that they could let themselves in. Brilliant!

Following the surprise baby shower, Len and I were heading out to celebrate my brother's birthday (: had a fantastic meal at Asia Grand at Odeon Towers. The staff's service was superb and they were so meticulous to even provide shawls to diners who might be feeling cold in the restaurant. Definitely worth a visit!

The birthday boy (: Always my cheeky brother

Happy Birthday Korkor!
Anyways, after dinner and yummy fresh fruit juice at Kor's place, Daddy and Mummy Pang sent us home. Since the Chews were having a family gathering the following day (Sunday), I thought it might be nice to ask my parents to come along too. Mummy Pang hesitated a little before laughing it off and saying that they would join us the next time. So not thinking too much about it, I dismissed it and promptly fell asleep in the car. Saturday had been a long day (:

Sunday - Surprise Baby shower #2
As mentioned earlier, Daddy Chew had confirmed 1st June Sunday to be Chew gathering day along with Mummy Chew's family too.  Strangely so, there was no communication on the Chew group chat about the time to meet, food items and the attendance. However, pregnancy brain does not probe you to think too much so it was strange but I did not think too much about it. After service at church, Len said that we should go home and rest before swimming at Mummy Chew's place at 5 pm. Since Saturday was quite tiring, I did not mind and yay, took a nap till 4pm, got dressed in my swimsuit and little dress and I was ready to swim!

BUT. When I reached the apartments, Len had a "stomachache" and he wanted to use the toilet by the pool before even going up to Mummy's place. Thinking it must be a really bad tummyache, I followed him up and saw balloons at the clubhouse. And Ummu and Hans, my closest friends from university and before my brain can process, deja vu, "Surprise!!!" This time, with family and close friends! A second surprise Baby Shower, my mind was blown! (((: Again, Len was trying to stall time by getting me to go home and take a nap so that the cousins, uncles and aunties had time to set everything up. And if you are wondering about the swim, nope, it did not happen. I basically wore the swimsuit till 10 pm without getting wet at all hoho.

Clockwise from left: Mini rompers with messages + real romper for Baby Paul + Pretty straws and drinks + Personalised favours!

Set-up crew/ cousins in action!  Future Aunty Rachel, Uncles Alvin, Raph and Ben!

While the older uncles-to-be are busy with set-up, the younger uncles-to-be (Timmy, Dylan and Joshua at the back) are on the Dark Side and having fun.

As for the surprise shower crew, not only were the Chews there, the Queks (Popo, Ah Yi-s and Ah Gu-s) and even the Pangs came! Flashback - Mummy Pang had laughed off joining us the previous day but she was actually putting up an act (: well done that Mummy Pang, Daddy Pang, my brother, sis-in-law and my cousin, nicole did not let the cat outta the bag. Lenard was also so thoughtful, along with Ummu and Hans to gather my other close friends, Siyu and Qiu, Doreen and Samuel, plus Dix and Abs to come celebrate with us. Most photographs are in Rachel's camera, our default professional photographer (: thanks love.

Doreen, Siyu and Qiu (: Old is gold.

Hawtdawg bun and Pau!

Daddy and Mummy Chew, Paul's Uncle Darryl and Uncle Alvin.
The entire clan (:

Honestly speaking, I did not think that I would have any baby showers, what's more, two baby showers specially thrown for baby Paul and me (: Think more than anything, the baby shower is not a shower of gifts as defined by Wikipedia, but more of a shower of love. just really overwhelmed by the love that our family in Christ, the cellies and our actual families and close friends had showered upon us. Really blessed to have God surround us with such wonderful loved ones who pour out His love upon us so willingly. A big thank-you to all who had put in such great effort to plan, decorate, coordinate, cooked, ordered food, turned up and just be part of the celebrations amidst your busy schedules.

In Uncle Alvin's words -

"Paul, you ain't out yet but you've mobilized the entire clan into action. No easy task, congrats."

Paul is a loved and blessed baby.

About 4 more weeks to seeing you, Baby Paul!

Lastly, I thank God for Len who had to coordinate and play along for both surprises over the two days (: he persevered even when I threatened to give him a knuckle-sandwich. I love you (:

More updates to come!!
